Our Story

You may have heard of the cottage industry, well we operate in the tiny shack behind that. Our company is composed of a husband and wife duo living and dreaming in Ottawa, Canada. We're passionate about many things; design, music, fashion, film, pretty much every form of art that has been touched with the indie spirit.

The Deckster Time:Piece is the first conception of this creative union.

We are practitioners of the Slow Goods movement, where objects take time to craft and are made of quality materials. We have chosen our materials and manufacturing processes with careful consideration as we attempt to bring future heirlooms to your household.

To the best of our ability, we strive to use on-shore manufacturers and suppliers. We searched and sought out small companies that have a steep tradition in quality and craftsmanship. We are in close contact with our suppliers and they are our partners in bringing our designs to life. 

It’s simple, we are two individuals who value quality and substance. No more, no less.

Deckster’s Story

Both of us grew up during the glorious/confusing 1980’s, where music, fashion and design of that era greatly influence our aesthetic. 

After the announcement and demo of the multi-touch iPod nano, we knew there was an opportunity to create something special. The idea for the Deckster came during a stroll with our young son and dog one brisk autumn evening. In between chats about toddler swim lessons and grocery lists, we were brainstorming on a nano watch concept. Even though the watch was our inspiration, it's still about the music. Can we design a protective enclosure while adhering to the simple elegant form of the nano? How about a tape deck system? Brilliant. It should be called the Deckster. Definitely.

Boom. Just. Like. That. The idea for the Deckster was plucked out of the ether on Sept 10, 2010. There was no need for further discussion, the concept and name came from a single casual burst of conversation. Then came the hard work.

We wanted to create a high end timepiece, the selection of materials and manufacturing technique needed to be exquisite. We wanted to keep all activity on-shore, where we can control the level of quality and we wanted small production numbers. Even though this may cause delays or prove to be challenging, we feel strongly that this extra effort translates into a top quality object that we can feel pride in creating. And that's how this little bundle of aluminum, leather and stainless steel came together.
